Detmaster RMD

Automatic rollmark detection system

Detmaster roll mark detector is the original and only system approved for exposed automotive material inspection!

Auto makers have demanded a zero-base defect tolerance for these exposed sheet product applications.  The Detmaster RMD Roll Mark Detector provides a new competitive advantage by near-real time roll mark detection and annunciation.  The benefits of this system include, increase capacity, less downgrading losses, less re-processing, better use of capacity, improved delivery and keeping customers.

It has been estimated that on average it costs producers of automotive quality steel millions of dollars per year because of the need to downgrade steel coils that were imprinted with cold mill roll marks. But until recently there hadn’t been an effective technology at the exit end of steel tandem mills to detect the presence until several coils with roll marks have already been produced.

To bring this cost down, SR-Instruments Oy, Finland, and ArcelorMittal Global Research & Development, France has developed a roll mark detection technology that is being marketed, distributed and integrated into steel mills by our regional partners.

One of the main challenges of the steel industry is to reach the zero-defect standard initiated by the automotive customers.  The Detmaster RMD Roll Mark detector provides a new competitive advantage by near-real time roll mark detection and annunciation.  This will significantly decrease the number of defective coils.  The off-line procedure currently in use requires periodic manual inspection of coils.  Therefore, several coils could exhibit a roll mark before the defect is discovered.  In addition, the manual inspection method relies on visual observation which is limited and subjective.

The Detmaster RMD Roll Mark Detector uses state of the art sensor technology and is not a vision system.  Therefore, it is not subjective and is capable of even detecting roll marks that are invisible to the human eye.

The identification of these VERY LOW CONTRAST defects can be crucial as it is known that defects are enhanced by coating.  Identifying these defects so late in the process greatly decreases the chance of reassignment of the coil.  Being able to strictly control production quality will reduce customer claims that affect brand image.  The system will allow the immediate identification of a defective roll to be replaced, securing the operation and increasing productivity.  The Detmaster RMD Roll Mark Detector will be more successful in terms of detection and sensitivity than all existing surface inspection systems.

Some of the questions we hear from customers like yourselves

What is the smallest mark that can be detected? NOT MEASURABLE BEFORE CHALKING. NOT VISUAL. 2 MM AFTER CHALKING.

What is the detection rate? DETECTS MORE ROLL MARKS THAN THE OPERATORS ARE CAPABLE OF DOING BY MANUAL INSPECTION.

What is the limitation for Max Speed of the Strip? 1650M/MIN AS STANDARD.

What is the processing time? LESS THAN 90 SECONDS. RESULTS WITHIN THE ROLLING OF THE SAME COIL.
